One teenage boy was found dead only a few days after being falsely accused of taking the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a burglary, an inquest has learned.
Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his remains in his room at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.
The inquest heard how his mother received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if her son was her offspring. The message added: "Tell him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."
In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, claiming her infant's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.
An investigation report from police later determined the alleged burglary victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was not taken in the beginning".
Media reports about the supposed stolen remains attracted online comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his parent said people "understood it was him".
The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she stated.
She added that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views really were important to him.
"It would have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was not true".
The teenager was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.
Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest learned, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the time of his death.
His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like days".
When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child informed her he had gone into the house because the woman who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he wanted, but refuted taking anything.
In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied online after the allegations.
The proceedings heard that one 19-year-old urged the teenager to end his life.
She had no concerns on the evening before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".
She described him as a "caring, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".
He had been "obviously hiding his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".
The inquest received testimony from school staff at the local High School.
On November 8th, she "heard some students talking that the student had been detained and that was the first I learned".
"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.
After the discussion, the staff member said she called Kai's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.
The court heard his parents said they did not receive that communication.
Senior coroner informed the hearing he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.
Providing a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a young individual.
"Likely falsehoods were subsequently embellished and amplified through the platform of online networks.
"On November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and following his interview he was released while investigations continued."
The official determined: "There is no proof that the actions or failures of any agency led to or added to his death and although it was the result of a personal act it is not possible to determine his intent."
