Controversial Competition Targets British Stars Following Signing of American Runner Kerley

UK-based athletes across various sports are being approached by the controversial sporting event following world-class sprinter Kerley became the most prominent athlete to date to join.

The 2022 world champion, the world 100m champion in 2022, announced he was entering the Enhanced Games, which allows participants to take PEDs that are banned in official events.

Those with knowledge report that the organization has been reaching out to additional British stars after announcing recently they had signed swimmer Ben Proud, the Olympic 50m freestyle silver medallist.

The sprinter’s choice led to his being dropped by his management team, Pace Sports Management, who also represent sprinting legend Usain Bolt and Mo Farah. A representative stated: “We were not involved in this contract and have ended our association with the athlete.”

The American sprinter, who claimed a silver medal in the 100m in Tokyo and a bronze medal in Paris, has been suspended pending investigation by the sports integrity body for location violations. Should he be found to have committed anti-doping regulations, the sprinter could face a minimum two-year ban from athletics. Yet, an official noted that more severe penalties could apply.

“He is under suspension so he cannot be considered a affiliate of World Athletics,” commented the chairman. “It is not possible to comment anything more unless that matter is concluded. But as he is banned, he has no rights within athletics.”

He also questioned why viewers would want to watch the competition, set to be held in Nevada this coming spring. “I go back to when the Romans would observe believers battling the beasts,” he noted. “People will invariably attract an crowd for something extreme. Thus there may be an viewership that would watch it, but I would like to ask: ‘Would you be comfortable to watch your child doing this?’”

Another official also referred to the event as “disturbing” but emphasized the organization was more focused on policing mainstream sport. “I don’t want to give the Enhanced Games too much publicity,” he commented. “The primary worry is probably the well-being of Fred Kerley and those involved. It is quite concerning, and I believe athletes are being exploited.”

The president of World Athletics commented he declined to talk about the sprinter but mentioned that the sport had significantly increased its prize money in the past few years. “This is not the forum for the competition,” the official stated. “We are here for the event here. We have no intention to explore that topic.

“Yet our revenues have grown funds by about 38% over the past period. Furthermore during the upcoming period we will allocate around $50m on financial incentives. I aim not to come across like a political figure, but I aim to competitors to benefit from the proceeds of success.”

Kerley, who has a top speed of 9.76 seconds, announced he was participating in the competition to try to become the quickest human in history. As well as appearance fees, he stands to win $1 million if he exceeds the current record of under 9.6 seconds.

“The ultimate achievement has long been the dream of my professional life,” the athlete commented. “The Enhanced Games allows me the possibility to focus all my energy to exceeding my limits and emerging as the most rapid human to exist.”
